Greetings from Apple
Luscious Organic Orchards on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada, from
Harry Burton, Owner,
Craig Burton, son and Webmaster,
|
- Over 125 apple varieties, specializing in heritage,
connoisseur and redfleshed varieties.
- Organically grown - using only natural feritizers such as
seaweed, manures, oyster shell and hay mulch.
- Non-irrigated - use of M111 rootstock combined with a heavy
dew every morning avoids the need to irrigate.
- A wild orchard encourages the growth of weeds, grass and
blackberries around but not touching the apple trees.
- An environment that is healthy and hospitable for all
creatures.

Sid, Willow and Tippy the three
"welcome" dogs, who at 8 pounds each don't scare anything away, but they'll
"bark you in" when you arrive. They love being here as much as we do and soon
they will be your best friend. Tippy and Willow love eating apples and will not let you
leave without sharing a piece of apple with them. |

We
take great pride in growing apples, pears, plums, Asian pears, cherries and wild
blackberries naturally, without use of any manmade chemicals. This creates a very peaceful
and healthy environment for all of Mother Nature's creatures. We love our little bit of
heaven; we welcome all visitors to our orchard and love to show it off. Please call ahead
to ensure we are home. Part of the fun of growing apples is the fine network of people,
growers, consumers and just the curious who we get to know.
So
far we had had some quite good results at the Salt Spring Island Fall Fair as is shown by
our 4 ribbons and 2 trophies from September 1996. We don't have all the answers to organic
growing, but strongly believe that we are heading in the right direction. My challenge is
to organically grow fruit better and more economically.
I am enjoying the challenge of growing fruit
organically, fruit that is good for people, with no harmful chemicals. |

So with
this, I invite you to visit Apple Luscious Organic Orchard electronically. Although not as
good as a real visit, this will give you some insight into our attempt to create a little
piece of heaven on earth. We love it. We hope you have fun.
